THIS IS NOT NORMAL!!!!!!: Day 3
If you have paid even 5 minutes of attention to Donald Trump over the past 18 months, you know that he launches ad hominem attacks on others in an attempt to gain power over them. In other words, he is a bully. He has attacked literally hundreds of people and organizations just on Twitter alone. One of his favorite targets over the past several months has been the press. He seems convinced that the mainstream media is out for him--which was clearly exhibited when he falsely accused the media of manipulating facts to make it appear that a relatively low number of people attended his inauguration.
This afternoon, one of Trump's favorite Enablers, Press Secretary Sean Spicer, held his first real press conference--more specifically, he actually took questions from reporters this time. CNN's White House correspondent, Jim Acosta, dared to ask difficult questions today, even after Trump tried to dress him down in his first press conference as president-elect. What followed was nothing short of a Spicer temper tantrum that happened to last longer than any either of my children has ever thrown. I have attached a transcript of the interaction here, but let me summarize it for you:
Acosta: So what's up with Trump? Why is he so fixated on the inauguration numbers? We all know he has issues, when are you going to admit it?
Spicer: Well, Dear Leader is just really sad because you bullies are always so mean to Dear Leader. Dear Leader tries, real hard, to do things. Good things. Bigly things. And Dear Leader uses good words, the best words--but you all keep telling Dear Leader that Dear Leader's things and words aren't good. And all of that makes Dear Leader really sad.
Acosta: Well isn't it our job, as the media, to tell the truth and to question Trump when he lies?
Spicer: NOOOOOOOO! No it's not your job! Your job is to shut up, believe every thing Dear Leader says, and report it as the truth. Instead you are just bumming Dear Leader out big time.
Annnnnnd scene. Before I move on, just let me state, THIS IS NOT NORMAL!
The interaction that occurred between Spicer and Acosta perfectly sums up a phenomenon exhibited by those with narcissism: "...When criticized, narcissists show themselves woefully incapable of retaining any emotional poise, or receptivity. And it really doesn't much matter whether the nature of that criticism is constructive or destructive. They just don't seem to be able to take criticism, period. At the same time, these disturbed individuals demonstrate an abnormally developed capacity to criticize others (as in, "dish it out" to them)." (Psychology Today)
Take a few moments to ponder the reality of this situation. We have a president who has some serious dysfunctions and, in just the first few days of his term, has proven himself incapable of accepting reality and tolerating those who try to point out reality to him. It appears, my friends, that we have a Snowflake in the White House. Oh, the irony...
